چکیده

A single sugar makes all the difference Antibodies are divided into several classes based on their nonvariable tail (Fc) domains. These regions interact with disparate immune cell receptors and complement proteins to help instruct distinct responses. The Fc domain of immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies contains a conserved N-linked glycan at position 297. However, particular used this is highly variable. IgG lacking core fucosylation initiates enhanced antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity by increased affinity receptor FcRIIIa. Larsen et al. report that COVID-19 patients severe symptoms have levels anti–severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) afucosylation compared mild disease. findings suggest treatment fucosylated anti–SARS-CoV-2 may circumvent pathologies associated COVID-19. Since the initial onset of the current severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic from Wuhan, China in December 2019, the virus is now spread all around the world, and the disease is named COVID-19. Based on the WHO report on April 18, 2021, there are now more than 140 million confirmed cases and three millions deaths due to this disease[1]. The virus pathogenesis, cl...

Severity of COVID-19 in hospitalized elderly at admission, delay in hospitalization, and death from COVID-19

Background: Age is a strong risk factor for increasing the risk of severity and death from Covid-19. The risk of hospitalization for Covid-19 disease increases with age. Since the elderly constitute a large proportion of Covid-19 patients, the present study was performed to evaluate the severity of the disease in the hospitalized elderly due to Covid-19 and the delay in hospitalization and deat...

Does a cell protein explain Covid-19 severity

Does a protein on the surface of some of our cells explain why certain people are more at risk from covid-19? The coronavirus attaches to a receptor protein on the surface(ACE) of our cells to gain entry to them. The protein is carried by cells in the nose, lungs and gut. It is possible that variation in how much of this protein people have may help explain why some are more likely to die from ...
